The Deutchmeisters Greatest Hits was originally published as a 2 record set. As we reissued this volume on CD, we remember 2 of the original Deutchmeisters who passed away in 2008.
Betty Wolf passed away on May 23, 2008 from pancreatic cancer. Betty was the heart and soul of the Deutchmeisters Orchestra for so many years. She played the piano in the band right up to just a few weeks before her death. Her happpy and peppy vocals were very much a part of the band. Betty arranged all of the music for the Deutchmeisters. She also taught music, specifically the concertina, to many people, young and old alike. Of these, a number of them went on to perform with other bands, many even starting their own bands. Betty truly loved music and lived life to it's fullest.
Al Pfannenstein Jr. was the original drummer for the Deutchmeisters Orchestra and stayed with the band fro the first 10 years of its existence. Jr. started out in his dad's band, "Al and The Blue Jackets". He then joined concertina player, Arnie Wolf and tuba player, Jay Patterson in forming the "Magic Hearts Orchestra" in the 1950's. When the band expanded with horn players, a new name, "The Deutchmeisters", was chosen. Jr. also loved music and was very much respected for the steady beat he provided on the drums for the Deutchmeisters.
JR. suffered an apparent heart attack at his home on Friday, August 1, 2008 an died later that evening at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Betty Wolf and Al Pfannenstein Jr. will be remembered fondly by their fans and fellow musicians for years to come.
May they rest in Peace!
